Install Pre Rooted Android 4 2 2 XXUAMC6 Jelly Bean firmware for the Samsung Galaxy S4 I9500

This guide contains all the instructions that you need to follow in order to install a pre-rooted Android 4.2.2 XXUAMC6 firmware on your Galaxy S4 I9500. It is an experimental release and we’re not sure that it works. This root appeared on XDA and it seems to be the first root file that you can flash on Samsung’s latest flagship device.
The Galaxy S4 will be launched at the end of this post but, an XDA member and developer, that goes by the name of AS I9000, managed to use the system dump files of Android 4.2.2 XXUAMCH firmware and create a new system.img file with added root and busybox. All these changes are included in a single .tar.md5 file and you can use to root the SGS4.
This root file doesn’t contain any Kernels, Recoveries nor Modem. It is stock Android 4.2.2 XXUAMC6 pre-rooted and busyboxed Jelly Bean firmware. In order to make sure that you successfully root your device using this guide, then you should first read the preparation info below:
  • The tutorial will work only with the Samsung Galaxy S4 model number I9500. It is the Exynos 5 Octa (eight-core) CPU variant of Galaxy S4. Don’t use this guide with the I9505 model as you will brick it.
  • Your Windows computer should have the Samsung USB drivers installed on it.
  • Try and backup all the data that’s currently stored on your device.
  • Enable USB Debugging option from the Developer Options menu. If you can’t find this menu, then you should open Settings, then ‘About phone’ section, scroll down to ‘Build Number’ and tap this 7 times. You will be told that ‘now you’re a developer’ or something like that.
  • Make sure that your computer doesn’t have any antivirus applications running in background. You’ll use the ODIN app to install this rooted firmware file and an antivirus app might consider ODIN to be malware. Note that it is a perfectly safe-to-use program.
  • The battery power left level should be over 40% before starting the root process. This will prevent the device from switching off.
  • Use this tutorial only if you’re an advanced user and you wish to test new rooted Android 4.2.2 releases on your Galaxy S4. Do not blame us in case you brick the phone or you lose any data files in the process.
  • Read all the instructions listed below and make sure that you won’t skip any steps.
Now that you know all of the above, you can continue to the next part of this post.

How to install rooted Android 4.2.2 XXUAMC6 Jelly Bean for the Samsung Galaxy S4 I9500:

  1. Download the XXUAMC6 I9500 Rooted zip from HERE. Save the file on your PC and, when download is complete, extract its contents. You will get a file that has the ‘.tar’ or ‘.tar.md5′ extension.
  2. Download Odin 1.85 from HERE. Extract its contents on your PC. NOTE: If Odin 1.85 fails to install the root, then you might want to try Odin 3.04 (here) or Odin 3.07 (here).
  3. Power off your Galaxy S4 device.
  4. Boot it into Download Mode by pressing and holding simultaneously Volume Down and Power buttons. When the Lcd powers ON you will need to press ‘Power’ once again for the Android Download Mode to appear. Get to the next step.
  5. Launch Odin exe on your PC.
  6. Now, connect your Galaxy S4 to your PC via USB data cable. Odin should say ‘added!!’ when the phone’s drivers have been successfully installed.
  7. Next, click the ‘PDA’ button in ODIN. Browse your PC contents for the I9500XXUAMC6_I9500OXAAMC6_ROOT_ODEX.tar.md5 file. Load it into ODIN. Don’t change any default settings of ODIN, just make sure that the ‘Re-partition’ option is disabled.
  8. Press the ‘START’ button when you’re ready for the installation. ODIN will take several minutes to complete the firmware flash process.
  9. When the install is complete you will see that the phone has restarted and ODIN displays the ‘Pass’ message. You can unplug the phone from PC now.
  10. The phone will reboot now and the last thing you need to do, is to check for the Superuser icon in the App drawer. If it appears, the root is now complete.
These were all the steps that you had to take in order to root your Samsung Galaxy S4 Exynos 5 Octa smartphone. If you cannot complete the guide, then you should ask for more help in our comments field.
Note that this is only a pre-rooted firmware and highly experimental. You might find some errors and bugs with this release or, it might not even work for some devices. We will know more after the Galaxy S4 will be officially released this late April.

Rooting Sprint Samsung Galaxy S4 L720 on Android 4 2 2 Jelly Bean using CF Auto Root

Sprint variant of the Samsung Galaxy S4 has received its own version of CF-Auto-Root, a tool designed by Chainfire which can be used to achieve root and open tons of extra features and functions. Use this tutorial to learn how to successfully flash all the required files without losing any data. This tutorial should be completed in under 5 minutes even if you’re not an advanced user.
Sprint Galaxy S4 users are usually rooting their devices in order to be able to flash new Custom ROMs or AOSP Jelly Bean operating systems that will get rid of the Samsung and Sprint bloatware. Custom ROMs, Kernel, new themes and other similar customization files. Such installation are released and created by developers for users who want to improve or test new Android interfaces and ROMs.
Rooting a Sprint Galaxy S4 phone is easy but, first, you will need to take a look at the preparation guide below so that you will manage to flash all the required files at your first attempt. Here’s what you have to know before continuing to the important part of this article:
  • this guide will work only with the Sprint variant of Samsung Galaxy S4 model number L720. Don’t try to use this tutorial with any other Android smartphone or tablet, as that might brick the phone and you will then be forced to reinstall stock Android, a process that will remove all the contents from your device.
  • after you apply the root, the phone might not want to boot into normal mode, which is why you might still be forced to ‘factory reset’ the S4 using the stock Recovery. You will find more info at the end of this post.
  • install the Samsung USB Drivers on your computer. If you already have them installed, then you can skip this step.
  • in order to root your phone, you will need to use the ODIN and the phone’s Download Mode. Odin can be found in the tutorial, while the Download Mode can be accessed like this.
  • enable USB Debugging from your device’s Developer Options. If this menu is not shown in your phone’s Settings menu, then you will have to tap About Phone and then press 7 times the Build Number section. The Android Developer menu should now be enabled.
  • disable Samsung KIES software before starting to root your device.
  • disable antivirus programs from running on your PC, these types of applications are usually interfering with ODIN and similar other tools.
  • the phone’s battery should have enough power left before discharging completely, as you wouldn’t want for the Sprint Galaxy S4 to power off in the middle of the updating process.
  • using this tutorial and CF Auto Root tool will increase the binary flash counter of your smartphone’s firmware, the warranty will be voided because of this. You can restore warranty only if you decide to flash a stock Sprint / Samsung Android 4.2.2 Firmware over the rooted one.
  • try to backup some of your most important data before starting the root process, this guide shouldn’t remove any data but, it would be best if you would create copies.
  • note that we cannot be blamed in case you brick your phone or, you manage to lose any data files in the process.
  • read all the info listed in this article and start rooting only when you’re sure that you can complete it.
  • if you cannot finish the root, then you can ask for extra help in comments and we will try to offer you viable solution for any problems that you might encounter in the process.
These were all the preparation instructions that you had to go over before starting to root your device.
CF-Auto-Root tool will not install any custom Recoveries, but you can use the GooManager or ROM Manager applications to flash a recovery image. If you have any other questions, post them in our comments section. Don’t skip any actions that are listed below.

How to root Sprint Galaxy S4 L720 on Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean using CF-Auto-Root:

  1. Download the CF-Auto-Root zip for Sprint SGS4 from here.
  2. Extract the contents of this zip and place them all into a single folder on your PC. You will obtain a file named ‘CF-Auto-Root-jfltespr-jfltespr-sphl720′ with the .tar.md5 extension, don’t extract any further than that.
  3. Download Odin 3.07 from here. Save the file on PC and unzip it after the download is complete.
  4. Power off your smartphone now.
  5. Boot the smartphone in Download Mode. After that you can continue to the next step.
  6. Launch ODIN exe on your computer.
  7. Connect your device to your PC via USB cable. Wait for ODIN to display the ‘added!!’ message before getting to the next step.
    > if Odin doesn’t recognize your Sprint Galaxy S4, then you should try to use another USB port or re-install the Samsung USB drivers, a download link is provided in the preparation guide above.
  8. Now, go to Odin, click the PDA button.
  9. Browse your PC for the ‘CF-Auto-Root-jfltespr-jfltespr-sphl720.tar.md5′ and load it. Leave all ODIN default settings unchanged and make sure that the Re-Partition one is not enabled.
  10. Press the START button whenever you’re ready to start the root of your Sprint Galaxy S4. This process shouldn’t take more than 10 minutes to complete.
  11. When all files have been successfully flashed, you will notice that your phone has restarted. Unplug the SGS4 from computer and wait for it to boot into normal mode.
  12. Look in the App drawer and check for the SuperSU app icon. That means that the root has been achieved with success.
NOTE: in case ODIN doesn’t complete the install, it shows the FAIL alert or any other errors, then you have to immediately unplug the Sprint Galaxy S4 from your computer. Remove the phone’s battery, re-insert it after 5 seconds have passed and close ODIN. Next, you have to repeat the entire tutorial once again starting with step 5. This time make sure that you don’t skip any steps that I have listed above.
In case you did manage to root your phone without problems and the home Lcd of Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean loaded successfully, then you can close this guide as you’ve completed all the required steps.
NOTE2: If ODIN says ‘PASS’ but your smartphone is unable to go past the Samsung boot animation, then you have to boot into stock Recovery mode and ‘factory reset’ the Galaxy S4. This means that you will lose installed apps and other contents stored on your device. This process will force the device to boot with the rooted firmware. Here’s what you need to do:
  • power off the phone completely by removing its battery.
  • re-insert the battery.
  • press and hold Volume Up, Home and Power buttons, all at the same time.
  • release the buttons when the Lcd flashes and wait for the main Recovery menu to appear.
  • select ‘wipe data/ factory reset’ option and confirm the process.
  • select ‘reboot system now’ and wait several minutes until your device completes the first boot process with the new rooted Jelly Bean ROM.
This tool did not install a custom Recovery image, which is why you might want to install it yourself using GooManager for TWRP Recovery, or ROM manager app for CWM Recovery. If you don’t know how to do that, then you can check the tutorial guide here.
If you have any extra questions, post them below in the comments section.

Update Samsung Galaxy S GT I9000 Using SLIM ICS Android 4 0 3 Custom ROM Firmware

SGS GT I9000 is capable of running the Ice Cream Sandwich 4.0 but only if it is a custom ROM firmware, as Samsung announced last year that there won’t be any official ICS for one of their most popular devices. Some guys have managed to create a custom ROM ICS that can be easily applied on your SGS GT I9000. All the instructions that you need are listed in this tutorial guide.
The ‘SLIM ROM’ ICS for GT I9000 doesn’t come packed with that many features, but still it works and if you’re a fan of Android’s upcoming OS edition then you should install it on your device. There won’t be any official release of Android ICS for Galaxy S and this means that you’re only chance to experience some of its feature is to install such customized ROM firmware, despite the fact that some functions are limited or lacking completely.
To install the SLIM ICS Update on SGS GT I9000, it has to be rooted with the XXJVU firmware because otherwise the update cannot be applied successfully. Also, the only supported smartphone is the GT I9000 model, which means that if you’re model says I9000B or I9000T the instructions won’t work for them. The main feature that are also working are listed below:
  • it supports five languages: English US and English UK, French, Deutsch, Spanish and Italian.
  • Android Market 3.4.4 that can be upgraded to Google’s new Play Store.
  • Zeam Launcher
  • default Google applications are now stock
  • Team Hacksung Kernel
  • Bluetooth, GPS, 2G and 3G, Wi-Fi and Data are supported
  • supports USB and Wifi tethering
  • phone calling is supported, obviously.
There are numerous small applications, features and functions that are incorporated in the SLIM ICS custom ROM firmware and you will be able to use them after the update is complete. Before starting to apply this update you need to read the info listed below in order to prepare your device and computer for the installation of the OS on your device. Here’s what you need to do:
  • backup all the data that is currently stored on your phone, as that might get lost during the updating process
  • try and backup your SMS texts, contacts, call logs etc.
  • save all the APN and MMS settings so that after the update is complete you will be able to connect to the internet.
  • disable all firewalls and antivirus/  antimalware software that are currently enabled. This will prevent other software from interfering with the updating process.
  • make sure that you’re device is rooted and it runs the XXJVU base firmware.
  • enable USB debugging mode by going to Settings, then Applications, open Development and ticking the USB Debugging option.
  • charge the SGS GT I9000 at least until it reaches 80% so that it won’t switch off during the firmware update.
Now that you know all this, you can move to the first step of the tutorial guide.
How to update the Samsung Galaxy S with SLIM ROM Android 4.0.3 ICS custom ROM firmware:
  1. First thing that you need is the SLIM ROM pack for the ICS firmware. Click the link and wait until the download is complete.
  2. Now, connect your phone to your computer using the USB data cable. Move the zip you downloaded at step 1 to your phone’s internal/external SD Card. Place it outside of any directory.
  3. Disconnect the phone from your PC and then Power it OFF.
  4. Now you need to boot it into recovery mode. Do it by pressing the Volume Up Key and Menu button and then press the Power button.
  5. When in recovery mode you need to select ‘Wipe data/ factory reset’ and then ‘wipe cache partition’.
  6. After the cache has been wiped and the phone has been factory reset you have to select the option that says ‘install zip from sd card’. Now select ‘choose zip from sd card’ and then select the SLIM ROM ICS firmware zip that you moved there at step 2. Now your device will begin the updating process to Android ICS.
  7. When the update has been completed, your GT I9000 will either reboot or it will take you back to recovery mode display. In case you’re redirected to the recovery mode Lcd you will need to select the ‘+++Go Back+++’ option. Now select ‘reboot system now’ and the SGS GT I9000 will be rebooted.
  8. The device will power on and after the home Lcd appear you will need to power it OFF again and remove the battery. Put it back ON and then boot your phone in recovery mode again. Repeat the steps listed at step 5 and then reboot your device and wait until it loads the Galaxy S new custom ICS Lcd.
Now that you’ve completed all the steps above, the Galaxy S GT I9000 should feature the Android ICS Custom SLIM 4.0.3 Firmware. You’re free to customize its interface and install you’re favorite applications, games etc. Also, make sure to restore all the data you’ve previously backed up before the starting the updating process. For any questions please use the comments field.
In case the update wasn’t applied, then you must’ve done something wrong. You should repeat all the steps listed above and, this time try to read carefully every single step as previously you might have overlooked a step or two, which prevented the SLIM ROM update to install successfully.
